Stories About Window Tinting, Decorative, and Security Film

Window Film FAQ's

The experience most people have with window film is with their vehicles. People choose to have window film placed on their auto glass because they wish to enhance the appearance or to help keep the vehicle cool during the hot summer months.

While we all know about window film, or window tinting as it is commonly known, for cars and trucks did you know you could do the same for the glass in your home or business?

Professionally installed window film brings with it some amazing benefits, but it also raises a lot of questions. Here are some answers to some more frequently asked questions about window film for both residential and commercial:

Does window film affect my view?

No, but only if you want it to. Unlike many other products on the market, our films use a "glueless" adhesive system. This allows for an optically correct film that enhances, not impairs your view. Depending on the film you choose, it may be nearly impossible to tell visually that the film was ever installed.

Does window film really control the heat I feel coming through my windows?

Based on the film chosen, a properly selected film offers incredible heat reduction properties. You can still maintain the beautiful view from your windows while at the same time creating a room that is significantly cooler and more comfortable.

Can window film help my fading problem?

While no product can entirely stop fading, our films do block up to 99% of the harmful UV rays from the sun. There are other contributing factors that lead to furniture fading, but with the correct film your problems with fading can become a thing of the past.

How do I clean the windows?

Just like you always did. By using films with either a dry adhesive or pressure sensitive adhesive system, you can continue to use many of the same household cleaners you have always used to clean window's with window film applied. Alcohol and ammonia-based cleaners are not recommended for most films, so check the label of your glass cleaner before using. We recommend a cleaning solution of room temperature water with about 6 drops of liquid dishwashing liquid added to spray bottle. Use a microfiber towel or lint-free paper towels while cleaning and you'll be pleased with the results. Best of all, most films are manufactured with a scratch-resistant coating, so cleaning is safe and easy.

Will the film break my glass?

No. With a properly selected film by a trained window film installation company like Meridian Window Tint, window film will not break window. All installers follow factory recommendations based on a film-to-glass chart supplied by the film manufacturer. When this is done, the likelihood of breakage is minimal.

The window manufacturer said that window film will void my warranty, but can I still have window film installed?

Yes, and there is good news! While it is true that window film will void the warranty on most windows, the warranties provided by many of today's window film manufacturers replaces the warranty on your windows. In some cases, the window film warranty provided by the film's manufacturer turns out to be better than what was originally provided by the factory where the window was produced.

What is the warranty?

There is a lifetime warranty on residential installations and a 10-15 year warranty on commercial installations, depending on the film that is chosen. Our manufacturers warranty against bubbling, cracking, delaminating, or peeling for the warranty period.

These are just a number of questions we are asked about window film. If you have other questions that did not get answered here, contact Meridian Window Tint.
